FREE CROCHET PATTERN FOR ACORN AMIGURUMIS.  These would be so cute for the autumn season coming up just around the corner.                        

 

You will need…

E US/3.5mm crochet hook
Small amount of worsted weight yarn in 2 colours (for acorn and cup)
Polyester fibrefill stuffing
Yarn needle to weave in ends
Stitch marker
Embellishments (see below for ideas)
Pipe cleaner to make twig (optional)

Acorn Pattern
worked from top to bottom

Make a magic ring, ch 1.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6 st)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 st)
Rnd 3: sc in each st around. (12 st)
Rnd 4: (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) six times. (18 st)
Rnds 5-10: sc in each st around. (18 st)
Rnd 11: (sc in next st, sc2tog) six times. (12 st). Stuff acorn through hole.
Rnd 12: sc2tog six times. Close up remaining hole, fasten off and weave in ends.

Acorn Cup Pattern           

Make a magic ring, ch 1.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6 st)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 st)
Rnd 3: (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) six times. (18 st)
Rnd 4: (sc in next 5 st, 2 sc in next st) three times. (21 st)
Rnds 5-6: sc in each st around. (21 st)
Rnd 7: sc in next 9 st, sc2tog, sc in next 8 st, sc2tog. (19 st).
Join with sl st to next stitch. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Decorating:

Your acorn will need a cute face. This can be as simple as just two eyes, or you can embroider on a nose and/or mouth.
Sew on small round beads or buttons.
Embroider circles to make an alert acorn.
Embroider ‘u’ shapes to make a sleeping acorn.
Glue on googly eyes.

Framed lucky penny holder with a striped blue and white fabric background with tiny little hearts. Penny is encircle with a pink hand crocheted holder. A little white bow accents the penny holder. It is framed with a 5 by 7 inch wooden look frame. The frame will set up or hang.

The penny is dated 2010.

Now that your gardens are really producing and you have lots of Zucchinis to use.  Here is a great recipe to use some of those zucchinis. 

 

   Zucchini and Basil Cream Sauce.   

   Ingredients

1 cup chicken broth 2 garlic cloves, minced dash cayenne pepper 2 small carrots, julienned 4 medium zucchini, cut into 2-inch julienne strips 1 teaspoon cornstarch 1/4 cup 2% milk 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1 tablespoon minced fresh basil 1/4 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Directions

In a large saucepan, bring the broth, garlic and cayenne to a boil; cook, uncovered, until mixture is reduced by a third. Add carrots. Reduce heat; cover and cook for 4-5 minutes or until tender. Add zucchini; cover and cook for 8-10 minutes or until tender. Drain.

Combine the cornstarch and milk until smooth; stir into vegetables. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Add Parmesan cheese and basil; stir gently. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.

What Are Worry Dolls?

Guatemalan worry dolls date back to Mayan traditions and are similar to many amulets around the world, in that they are thought to soothe your fears and anxieties. Unlike most amulets, worry dolls were often made specifically for children, and in Guatemala they may still be used for this purpose. These little dolls, an inch (2.54 cm) or less in length, usually come in a box or bag in sets of six.
Worry dolls are inexpensively ordered on the Internet, or you and your children can make your own. They may serve an anxious child very well. In fact, some hospitals use them for children who have major illnesses, much in the same manner that dream catchers are used to chase away bad dreams.
The Guatemalan traditions is to use one of six worry dolls each night. The child (or the adult) tells a worry to the doll, then puts it under her pillow for the night. If a family is large and children all have worries, they may share a bag of worry dolls so each child has his or her own. Alternately each child has their own bag of worry dolls and for six nights in row they tell a worry to one of the dolls before slipping it under their pillow.
Each doll will combat the worry overnight, hopefully providing the child with better sleep. In modern use, this is not considered a “magical” element, but more comparable to many of the myths we have for kids. It’s also a good sense way to help anxious kids voice their worries, which may help promote better sleep.
Similar to the tooth fairy, parents will remove the doll during the night, symbolizing that the worry is gone. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the child’s worry is gone, and it’s important not to minimize a child’s strong anxieties. Parents who want a child to keep dealing with anxiety might want to skip this removal process, and just let the child know the doll is taking care of the worry at night so that the child can get a good night’s sleep.
